ABOUT THE GRAPHIC LINE

The Graphic Line Jewellery features contemporary designs that are largely influenced by a love for modern architecture and design, urban spaces and structures.

INSPIRATION

I am heavily influenced by what I see around me – London’s urban landscape – the choice and combination of materials, shapes and colors, if any, echo modern buildings intertwined with industrial structures and urban textures. Architecture has always been a keen interest, especially when steel beams or ironworks are not hidden but a proud part of the final design.

I try to apply the same principles to the jewellery I make. Lines and shapes create a series of linear, silver pieces – an abstract and minimalist interpretation of the endless rhythm and modular composition of elements. There is no need to hide the construction of a piece because it becomes an integral part of the design.

The Graphic Line’s body of work is sculptural, delicate and tactile; usually large in scale, but light to wear. My inclination toward the minimal and geometrical, my love of grids and structures, shine through my current work.

I generally prefer to keep things simple and the design understated.

What makes jewellery making my thing is that it is literally very hands on. I am interested in the process of making – the cutting and the shaping of metal, but most of all I love the fire.

Each piece is carefully handmade in my North London home/studio using traditional metalsmith techniques. From drafting initial sketches to using a fabrication approach – I see jewellery making as a direct translation of my drawings into metal.

BACKGROUND
Originally trained as a graphic designer, I am still working as design and art director in London. My passion is design, whether it is 2 or 3 dimensional, and being able to translate drawings and graphics into actual wearable jewellery pieces was a desire that has grown stronger over the years.

My making experience is a mix of being self taught and part time studies in silver smithing and experimental jewellery at UAL, the University College of the Arts London. Exploring different processes and techniques allows me to decide where to take my creations.
